one-to-one somatics

Individual sessions. Time to listen. Space to explore.

One-to-one Somatics offers time and space to explore your body, movement and experience at your own pace.

Sessions are shaped around you - your needs, your questions and what you're noticing. Through slow, guided movement and sensory awareness, we explore habitual patterns, discover different possibilities for moving and resting, and develop a deeper understanding of your own experience.

What happens in a session?

We begin with a conversation. I'll already have some background from the form you complete beforehand, but there's time to talk about what's brought you to Somatics, ask questions and explore what you're hoping for.

The movement is generally slow, gentle and exploratory, working on the floor in different positions — lying on your back, side or front. I guide you through movement suggestions and questions that invite you to notice your own sensations and responses.

You might be invited to share something you're noticing, but much of the time the questions are simply there to support your own internal exploration. There's no need to find the right answer or describe everything you're experiencing. I may suggest practising with your eyes closed, if that feels comfortable.

I think of this as a process of shared inquiry. Rather than following a fixed sequence, we let your experience guide the work. What you notice in one movement might inform what we explore next, and what emerges in one session helps shape the next. My role is to guide the exploration and offer possibilities, while remaining responsive to your experience.

A process that unfolds over time

Somatics isn't usually a quick fix. You may notice something different after a single session, but developing a deeper awareness of habitual patterns and exploring new possibilities takes time.

I generally recommend beginning with a series of at least three sessions, allowing time for the work to develop and for you to begin exploring what you're discovering between appointments. Each session builds on what has come before, with the direction guided by your experience and what emerges along the way.

This isn't about committing to a predetermined course of treatment. We'll work together to find an approach that feels appropriate for you, and review how things are developing as we go.

Who might it be for?

One-to-one Somatics may suit you if you're:

  • Living with persistent pain, tension or restricted movement, and curious about a different way of relating to your body.

  • Experiencing fatigue, stress or overwhelm, and looking for a quieter, less demanding form of movement.

  • Finding that familiar movement habits no longer serve you, perhaps following an injury or as your body changes.

  • Interested in Somatics but unsure whether a group class is the right place to start.

  • Wanting individual attention to explore your movement and experience more deeply, with or without a particular problem to solve.

You don't need previous experience of Somatics or Yoga. We can begin with what's present for you and take it from there.

between sessions

Where helpful, we may identify simple movements or practices to explore between sessions. These will be relevant to the work we've done together and suggested in a way that feels manageable for you.
